Batiks are hand-dyed fabrics originating from the South Pacific islands. Due to the manual process each yard of fabric is unique. Once the fabrics have been stamped and dyed they are left to dry in the sun. If a rain storm passes through the final appearance of the fabric can be dramatically impacted. These fabrics should be washed separately, some color bleeding is natural, especially with dark batiks. You may wish to set the color by using Retayne or vinegar in a pre-wash. Neither of these will stop all color loss, but they are more effective than doing nothing.
